Coming soon in Creo: Composite Design and Manufacturing

Join PTC/USER and PTC’s Arnaud van de Veerdonk, Product Manager – CAD products, for an in-depth technical working group around a future release of Creo, focused on those companies who have to design and manufacture composite structures. Originally limited to the space and aeronautics industry, composites are now being used in a multitude of industry verticals, such as vehicle and equipment applications, including, panels, frames, interior components, and other parts. Other composite infrastructure applications include buildings, roads, bridges, and pilings. Designing parts and assemblies that leverage composites is a technically complex and challenging process, particularly when you have to perform modeling, simulation, and manufacturing planning within the design process.

PTC would like to engage with Composite design and manufacturing professionals in an interactive working group session to understand their most pressing business challenges and discuss required capabilities and functionality which is of primary importance to assessing a CAD solution. Attendees are expected to actively participate, contribute and share detailed information around Composite Design, Manufacturing and PLM, and will have the opportunity to influence PTCs investment/roadmap in this area.

Windchill Performance Advisor Release Updates

As you may already know, Windchill Performance Advisor is a tool that is available to all Windchill customers and helps keep your Windchill instance running optimally by providing valuable insights about the specific use of each Windchill instance.

Valuable Insights for You
Valuable insights provided by Windchill Performance Advisor include:

  • Tracking license consumption across multiple servers deployed on site, which enables you to optimize software costs and feature needs.
  • Windchill Performance Advisor tracks configurations/customizations applied to Windchill environments that are deployed at your sites. Based on this knowledge of changes applied to Windchill environments, it provides tools that provide an impact assessment of applying available Windchill CPSs and/or Windchill Updates.

Windchill performance Advisor, starting in Windchill 12.0.2.0 and onward, is configured to automatically collect license usage data (this was by default starting June 23, 2021). You will no longer be able to opt-out from PTC collecting license usage data* unless you request an exemption.

The mandatory collection of license usage data applies to:

  1. Windchill 12.0.2.0 systems that are installed, upgraded, or updated, will automatically start collecting license usage data.
  2. Newly installed Windchill 12.0.2.0 systems will automatically start collecting license usage data
  3. See article for license usage data that may get inadvertently collected if a 12.0.2.0 license file is deployed on 12.0.0.0 - 12.0.0.3.

Note: In case of any concerns regarding PTC collecting licensing information please refer to section "Exemptions" in this document

Data PTC Collects

When considering what Data to collect, protecting the privacy of Users was made a priority, and by adhering to the principles of Privacy by Design and Privacy by Default we ensured that no data that relates to, or could reasonably be linked to, an identified or identifiable individual, is collected wherever possible. License usage data is anonymized at the source and PTC does not have the ability to identify individual Users from such data. The purpose of the collection of the Data is not to identify individual Users.

The following types of Data are collected by Windchill Performance Advisor:

  • Performance-related properties that are set by Windchill Configurator
  • List of Windchill modules installed and their versions
  • Counts of various database tables
  • Basic information about nodes in the Windchill installation
  • Performance-related preferences and their values
  • Assessment of customizations to the Windchill system
  • Output from the License Usage Report
  • Statistics around viewable generation

Data items like hostnames, IP addresses, ports, and user identifiers are anonymized before they are transmitted to PTC’s Performance Advisor. The anonymization is carried out via keyless hashing algorithms and is computationally impossible to reverse by PTC. No personal data or data that could be linked to an identifiable User is collected.

For more details on automatic license data collection, review this support article: https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/CS000346079.

New Strategy for PTC ECAD Windchill Workgroup Manager

New Strategy for PTC ECAD Windchill Workgroup Manager
PTC and the Windchill segment recently announced a new strategy for our ECAD Workgroup Managers that included the formal retirement of the PTC ECAD Windchill Workgroup Manager products.

PTC is working directly with our ECAD partners on the next generation of Windchill – ECAD integration options, of which Altium and xPLM have production-ready versions today:

In support of that, and to ensure your existing data is compatible, they are each developing a migration path to replace your existing ECAD integrations with their equivalent products.

Beginning with the Windchill 11.2.0.0 release (from June 2019), PTC will not be shipping the ECAD integrations (Windchill Workgroup Managers for Cadence, Altium, Zuken and Mentor-based products and the Windchill Gateway for Cadence ADW).

The current ECAD integrations will continue to be supported through the planned end-of-support dates for the respective Windchill releases. For example, ECAD integrations released with Windchill 11.1 M020 will continue to be supported until January 2022.

During this time, support for the current ECAD integration will be limited to 1) Critical SPRs and bug fixes and 2) New ECAD vendor versions. PTC will not plan to deliver any feature enhancements or add support for newly introduced products from the ECAD vendors.

Please feel free to contact your local PTC Support representative or Ruediger Scholz, Senior Product Manager, PLM segment (rscholz@ptc.com) if you have any questions or concerns.

For more details, on the Windchill release support timelines, please refer to the PTC Product Calendar. For more information regarding this update or for contact information for each partner, refer to these support articles: CS298492 , CS302844
